West into the Thar. The forts get older and the towns get smaller the further you go.
Day by day
- Day 1 — Jodhpur. Arrive. The old town below the fort in the evening.
- Day 2 — Jodhpur. Mehrangarh, Jaswant Thada, and the blue streets of the old city.
- Day 3 — Bikaner. North across the desert. Junagarh Fort in the afternoon.
- Day 4 — Bikaner to Jaisalmer. The long leg west, arriving for sunset on the fort walls.
- Day 5 — Jaisalmer. The living fort and the havelis by day, the dunes and a camp by night.
- Day 6 — Departure. Gadisar at first light, then onward.
Good to know
April to June is punishing out here — 45 degrees is normal. October to March is the season, and the desert nights in December are genuinely cold.
